photocompThe highlight of the Autumn racing calendar, the 7 day Listowel Harvest Festival is on from Sunday 14th to Saturday 20th of September 2014. In addition to top quality National Hunt and Flat racing, the Listowel Racing Committee have also organised an extensive range of free entertainment, daily race card draws with cash prizes, promotions, music and more, to get everyone, of every age, into the festive atmosphere and partake in the ‘Serious’ Fun that is synonymous with racing in Listowel.

This September, Listowel are celebrating 156 years of racing at the course, making it one of the longest running and most successful racing festivals in the country today. As part of this year’s celebrations, the Race Company have launched a photography competition, entitled “Loving Listowel Races”, and entries are now open to submit photographs (originals or digital images) that capture the magic, excitement and ambience of a day’s racing in Listowel. Themes can include Racing, Family, Friends, Fashion, Humor, Scenery and History. The photography competition is open to everyone of all ages, and can include images from past race meetings, or specially shot images that capture the magic of racing in Listowel. There are a number of prizes to be won, plus 30 of the finalist’s work will be shown at an exhibition at the course over race week. Judges will include celebrated Kerry based photographers, Don MacMonagle and Pat Healy. The Lyons of East River Best Dressed Man is on Thursday 18th with a total prize fund of €1,300. Judged by Kerry Rose, Mary Hickey, together with last year’s winner Seamus Friel, sharp dressed men of all ages are eligible, and again this year, the overall winner will receive €1,000 towards their nominated charity.
Pat Lyons, sponsor, and owner of Lyons of East River, Mens, Ladies & Home Interiors, “Sharp Dressed Men is what we’ll be looking for, suit and jackets, classic or casual. We are delighted to confirm The Best Dressed Man competition has been permanently changed to the Thursday of the Races as well, thereby giving two days of back-to-back fashion and fun for everyone”.
Of course, the most glamourous ladies day of the Fall Season, the Chic Boutique Ladies Day at the Listowel Harvest Racing Festival is on Friday 19th of September. This year promises to be extra glamourous as Patricia and Mary O Flaherty of Chic Boutique will be celebrating their 25th anniversary sponsoring Ladies Day, making it the longest independent retailer sponsorship in Ireland today. Once again, Ladies Day will be judged by TV personality and Kerryman, Daithi O Se and style icon and model agent, Celia Holman Lee. Judging will commence at 1pm and the winners will be announced in the parade ring after the 5th race. The Chic Boutique Ladies Day Prize Fund is valued at €9,000, so it is certainly worth dressing to impress.

Over 30,0000 people attended last year’s Chic Boutique Ladies Day and organisers are expecting even bigger crowds this year. The total Ladies Day prize fund is €9,000 and the winner of the Chic Boutique Best Dressed Lady will receive a €2,000 voucher for Chic boutique, plus €500 in cash, and a limited edition print from artist Olive Stack. The 1st runner up receives a €500 voucher for Chic Boutique and €250 in cash and the 2nd runner up receives a €250 voucher for Chic Boutique and €250 in cash. All 15 finalists will receive a bottle of sparking wine and a €150 Chic Boutique Goodie Bag.

Making a welcome return again this year on Saturday 20th of September is a fun and fashionable Alternative to Best Dressed Competitions – the Listowel Tidy Towns Group, in association with An Taisce Best Up cycled/ Re-styled or Authentic Vintage outfit. Entry is open to both men and women with both cash prizes and hampers to be won.
