The Listowel Food Fair is delighted to announce the recipient of the ‘2023 Listowel Food Fair Local Food Hero Award’ – In Association with Kerry Local Enterprise Office is Mary Thea Brosnan from Castleisland with her food product ‘Kerry Kefir’.
Speaking about the special presentation Listowel Food Fair Chairman, Former Minister of State in the Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Development Jimmy Deenihan said:

This award shines a spotlight on a “Local Food Hero” who has lead the way with their labour intensive, hand produced product while also keeping the integrity of it intact. Mary Thea Brosnan and ‘Kerry Kefir’ is the only small batch fermentary in Ireland dedicated solely to the production of milk kefir the old fashioned way. Her dedication to producing the best result has not only supported our local Kerry farmers but has also cultivated a sustainable and vibrant fermented food culture in the locality and further afield.With Mary Thea Brosnan’s kefir grains and Kerry cow’s milk, our 2023 Listowel Food Fair Local Food Hero has transformed one simple ingredient into something extremely special which is Kerry Kefir.
