Winners Sustainable Style Saturday at Listowel Races
The future of the planet took centre stage in the fashion stakes on the closing day of the Harvest Festival as the race meeting continued to celebrate its long-standing commitment to conscious fashion with its Sustainable Style Competition organised by Listowel Tidy Towns in association An Taisce and supported by Listowel Races and the businesses of Listowel town. Judged by top model Sydney Sargent; Katie Sloane, owner of Peach Vintage Clothing and Elaine Doyle from An Taisce, entries were up 400% on previous years as lots of racegoers of all ages dressed to impress in fabulous vintage and preloved looks.
The overall winners were as follows; Bonnie Sanderson in the Conscious Couture Category sponsored by Listowel Race Company and she received €200. Megan Meehan in the Pre Loved Category sponsored by McGuires Pharmacy and she received €200; Cathy Troth in the Vintage Category sponsored by McCarthys Brokers and she received €300 and the overall winner was Regina Heffernan and she received €500 sponsored by Listowel Race Company. The organisers wish to thank the businesses of Listowel who contributed so generously again this year and the runners up and finalists received generous gifts and vouchers.
Now celebrating its 14th year, this is a Listowel Tidy Towns initiative to highlight waste minimisation and promote the circular economy. It was originally founded a group from Tidy Towns including Imelda Murphy and Mary Hanlon over 14 years ago and continues to grow in popularity attracting entries of all ages from all over Munster. Imelda was joined by a team from Listowel Tidy Towns on the day including Liz Horgan, Julie Gleeson and Joan Byrne.
Sustainable Style Saturday was one of four dedicated fashion events that took place over the Listowel Harvest Festival – which saw record breaking crowds attend every day to enjoy the unique atmosphere, quality racing and fun that is synonymous with the Listowel Races for generations.
