Initial Hygiene launches new Period Dignity service
– Presentation Secondary School in Castleisland is providing essential period products
Initial Hygiene, one of Ireland’s leading providers of washroom hygiene, vending, and floor mat solutions, has launched its new Period Dignity service in Ireland which aims to provide easy access to period products.
Initial Hygiene is working with various customers across education, government, commercial office, and retail sectors who wish to offer free period products in their washrooms. This initiative underscores Initial Hygiene’s commitment to social responsibility and its dedication to promoting inclusive and equitable access to essential hygiene products.
Presentation Secondary School in Castleisland is one school that is partnering with Initial Hygiene to provide free period products across its campus.
Initial Hygiene offers four different dispenser options, including cashless vends and a compact unit, which is small enough to be located within the toilet cubicle, so importantly, at the point of need. These innovative solutions provide enhanced accessibility and convenience for consumers, ensuring that period products are readily available in public spaces, schools, and workplaces.

Pierce Dargan, Principal of Presentation Secondary School, Castleisland, Co. Kerry said: “Initial Hygiene’s Period Dignity service is helping us to ensure a hygienic, inclusive and dignified washroom experience for our students. No one who menstruates should be forced to miss school or work because they have their period, and that is why access to free and hygienic period protection for those who need it is so important. We applaud Initial Hygiene for their dedication to improving the lives of students and for partnering with us to make a positive impact.”
Sian Walkling, Head of Marketing, Initial Hygiene, says: “Creating a welcoming and hygienic washroom is important for any organisation, which is why we believe that sanitary products should be viewed as a ‘washroom essential’, in the same way, soap and toilet paper are. We believe that everyone who menstruates has the right to period dignity and having access to free period products in the washroom plays a crucial part in this. We’re extremely proud to be supporting the amazing efforts of Presentation School, Castleisland against period poverty.”
The initiative follows the HSE National Social Inclusion Office in 2022, which initiated a demand-led period dignity pilot scheme designed to combat period stigma and ensure the equitable distribution of free period products in partnership with HSE Community Health.
