Listowel Garden Centre – A story 40 years in the making
The Listowel Garden centre is celebrating its 40th anniversary this April. I asked them some questions about their business and its history, from its inception to its upcoming celebration for 40 years of business. Here’s what they had to say. Back in 1984, Listowel Garden Centre was founded by Liz McAuliffe alongside her husband Nick. Selling a wide range of quality flowers, the business has stayed strong and remains in the family with Liz and Nick’s Son and Daughter, Mairead and Feidhlim working full time to keep things growing in the right direction.
But every business needs people to know about it to thrive, and the Listowel Garden Centre has enjoyed a loyal customer base spreading the word to others. In more recent years they have also embraced social media such as facebook and instagram alongside running ads in local newspapers such as the Kerry’s Eye and the Advertiser, and of course, Connect Kerry magazine. Open all year round, except for St Stephen’s and New Years, the Listowel Garden Centre has worked hard for its place in the local community, they also offer on hand horticultural advice with their in-house horticulturists, Kerry and Emmett, to help ensure that if you take a plant home it stays happy and healthy. They also offer local deliveries, especially during Covid they stayed vigilant with fulfilling local orders while also prioritising the health of everyone involved, ensuring customers got their gardening essentials even during difficult times.
If you’re not looking for gardening, the centre also offers furniture, homeware, gifts, a fashion mimosa boutique and even a cafe, meaning anybody can come and enjoy their time in Listowel . Thyme Out Café has just had its outdoor area expanded allowing customers to enjoy their coffee out in the gardens. The McAuliffe family have worked hard to ensure that the Centre remains an ideal shopping destination that offers something for everyone.
