Summer time from all at Ballyseedy

Hello Summertime from all at Ballyseedy, especially the garden centre team. At this point I’m sure you all have your hanging baskets and window boxes planted. Ideally one should get five to six months from their baskets but there are a few key pointers to achieving this.
• Purchase quality plants
• Quality compost i.e. never using old compost, always dispose of last years, washing your containers out and starting with fresh compost. We at Ballyseedy recommend baskets and containers. The reason for this is the exact amount of
feed and wetting agent is in this compost. Westland our supplier goes to great lengths with trials, to get the right results, therefore all the work is done for you.
• Feeding locally sourced where possible, Brandon Seaweed feed comes from our local shores, it has extra mineral and trace elements, therefore getting the best from your plants.
• Watering is of paramount importance, neither under or over watering, it has to be consistent, sometimes investing in a drip system if you have a lot of baskets, it’s a worthwhile investment.
Window boxes and hanging baskets don’t necessarily need to be floral, a mix of floral and edible or all edible, e.g., strawberry basket, herb basket/box or why not both.
A window box planted with perennials can draw butterflies and bees, these plants can be subsequently planted in your garden in the autumn, therefore no waste. How beautiful to sit out on a summer evening taking in the scent of lavender, dianthus or scented geraniums, invoking memories of grannie’s garden and long lazy summer days.
For all your loyalty, please remember we are here to guide you on you planting questions.
