No trip to Killarney is complete without a visit to the well-established Kitty O’ Se’s Seafood and Grill. Opening its doors for the first time in Killarney in August 2019 on College street after establishing a successful brand in Kinsale, County Cork, it has become a favourite amongst locals and visitors. From the moment you enter you are greeted with the warmth of welcoming hospitality, the type of ‘Cead Mile Failte’ that endears the Irish in the hearts of visitors. It is clear to see just why Kitty O’ Se’s was the winner of Best Newcomer in the Hospitality Awards 2019.

The biggest problem you will face is trying to decide what to order with the delicious options on offer. A personal favourite for starters is the Mussels Mariniere in a white wine, garlic and cream sauce with shallots. Bursting with flavour from the first bite, the rich creamy sauce marries so well with the mussels.

If mussels aren’t for you then I can recommend the Tempura Prawns, cooked in Kitty’s beer tempura batter served on a bed of mixed leaves with sweet chilli mayonnaise. The batter is divinely melt in the mouth, accompanied by the kick of the sweet chilli mayonnaise, it is a starter that will be hard to beat.

For the mains you will have to try Kitty’s famous fish and chips at least once in your life! Coated in Kitty’s top secret recipe light beer batter you can choose between Haddock, Cod or Hake to have with the fresh home cut chips, mushy pea’s and Kitty’s very own tartare sauce. The batter on the fish in itself is something to be experienced, full of flavour and melting on the tongue, it evokes memories of holidays by the sea. For the pasta lovers amongst us, the Seafood Tagliatelle is something I have never tasted as good elsewhere. With beautiful fresh tagliatelle, it is cooked with smoked haddock, salmon, prawns and cod in a rich cream sauce. This is a dish not to be shared because you will want every last bite for yourself! Speaking of sharing, Kitty’s famous Seafood Tower is made to be share with both hot and cold options it offers and array of seafood delights including freshly opened oysters served with potatoes or home cut chips. For those not so fond of seafood, Kitty’s offers beautiful locally sourced meat such as prime 10oz sirloin steak or Kitty’s own chicken curry.

Bringing back memories of home baking and comfort food at its best, it is a winner for sure. For those with a more savoury palette the cheeseboard option is definitely for you. With a beautiful selection of cheese, fruit/nut crackers along with a shot of house port or prosecco.
