Julett preparing to represent Kerry in Rose of Tralee
This month we are delighted to catch up with the newly crowned Kerry Rose Julett Culloty, A native of Kilcummin she was handed the sash from last year’s Kerry Rose Mary Hickey at the Ballyroe Heights hotel recently. It was a fantastic night and all the participants had a wonderful experience, Julett tells us a little about herself and her plans for the next few months.
Julettt you must be thrilled to be wearing the Kerry Rose Sash for 2015, tell us a little about yourself and where you come from?
Hi, Yes, I’m absolutely thrilled to be representing Kerry in this year’s Rose of Tralee festival. It is a huge honour for me. I’m 25, I’m from and live in Kilcummin, I have five brothers and two sisters and I am the second youngest. I am a social care worker; I studied in I.T Tralee and graduated from there in 2011, and have since worked in a number of different organisations around Munster
Has it always been a dream to represent Kerry in the Rose of Tralee?
Honestly, being a Kerry Rose was only something I wanted to do with the past couple of months and I feel so lucky now for entering the competition because I have made some amazing lifelong friends from it and have had one of the best experiences ever.
You graduated in Social Care in 2011 what does your daily job have you doing?
Well, I have primarily worked with children in care, so what that means is that I work with children who have been placed into the care of the HSE, and I then help to care for them on a daily basis and also help them with whatever problems or issues that they may be having. It can be very challenging at times, but it’s really worthwhile, I love it.
I know it’s been a hard year for you being sick but you have come through and are still smiling so what’s your tip to ladies of your age out there on looking after their health?
Prevention is better than cure! For anyone out there, who is worried about their health
, or feels that there is something not quite right then you need to do whatever it takes to get an appropriate health check, no one else can do it for you. Even if it’s something small, go see you’re G.P, just to put your mind at ease. For anyone who is going through some form of Cancer, or any other illness for that matter, Your mind is the most powerful thing, so keep strong and be positive and anything can happen. Having a support network around you is key also. I had massive support around me when I was ill and it meant the world to me.
So what’s next for julett?
I’m extremely excited and looking forward to the Rose festivities and meeting the rest of the roses. For now, I’m being kept busy attending events and working with a local charity and enjoying every minute of it. I’ve been asked to attend the opening of the Dorothy Henngeler walkway in Tralee, Dorothy who was the 2011 Washington Rose sadly passed away in 2013, so to be there on the opening of this, I feel is a huge honour. So I’m looking forward to being busy and enjoying every minute of it.
