Hi everyone, my name is Laura Holly and I started my blog, ‘Laura Holly Beauty and Fashion’ a few years ago as a hobby. I want my blog to be a place where ladies can take a few minutes to enjoy fashion, everyday outfits, beauty and interiors. There is a mixture of high street, local boutiques and the odd designer piece here and there. When Connect Kerry asked me to do a monthly column I jumped at the chance!
This month I am going to focus on my top 10 Beauty Must Haves!
I love an oil cleanser and the Caudalie Vino Clean Make-Up Removing Cleansing Oil is absolutely beautiful. Taking off my make-up and jewellery when I come home, is my favourite part of the day! And this little gem, makes your skin squeaky clean. It is a mix of 100% natural origin plant oils. It nourishes, cleanses and removes the skin’s impurities, all while enhancing the eyelashes thanks to the castor oil. A little tip is to ALWAYS double cleanse – you’d be surprised what comes off on the second cleanse! Available at McAuley’s Pharmacy Tralee or Lynch’s Pharmacy Castleisland
I love a toning spray. I find a lot of toners can be very harsh and stripping on the skin. The award-winning Trilogy Hydrating Mist Toner is always on me, one in the bathroom and one in my handbag! It is a revitalising all-in-one toner and floral moisture mist that instantly delivers moisture to skin, leaving it lovely and dewy. It’s also a great setting spray for make-up and perfect for sensitive skin.
Available in local pharmacies and Horan’s Health Shops.
Number three has to be a good moisturiser. A new discovery of mine earlier this year, was the La Roche Posay Hylau B5 Aquagel SPF30 moisturiser. I have such sensitive skin and have to be so careful about what I use on my face. I actually love the whole La Roche Posay range. This moisturiser is so intensely hydrating and gives a fab glow to the skin. Especially on those no-make up days. Add a bit of concealer, bronzer, do your brows and you’re good to go! I also love that it has SPF in it. Most SPF moisturisers aren’t great to put under foundation, as they leave a residue. This however, is a lovely base for your make up. Available at All Care Pharmacy, Mounthawk, Tralee.
Next up is the all-important foundation! The IT Cosmetic’s Illuminating CC Cream is unbelievable! It feels nourishing on the skin, whilst giving amazing coverage. I suffer from eczema on my neck and eyes from time to time and this CC cream completely hides it – without getting crusty. Its available at CH Tralee or online.
Another lovely foundation and more purse friendly is the L’Oreal True Match Foundation, light but buildable and available in tons of shades!
Up next, the ‘New CID Cosmetics I – Groom Neutral Eyebrow Pencil’. I get this from the Eyebrow Queen herself, Joanne at Plush Brow Skin Beauty, Maine Street, Tralee. If you haven’t had a Brow Define done by Joanne yet, I cannot recommend her more! This is an award-winning eye brow pencil and brush. It’s a waxy pencil that can be used on all shades of eyebrows, making it so easy to use. Apply lighter or heavier pressure to the brow, depending on your colour preference.
This Cult favourite has been in my make up case for over a decade – the Charlotte Tilbury Rock ‘n’ Kohl eyeliner in Eye Cheat. It is the universal nude tone and creates the optical illusion of wider, fuller and more awake eyes. Line around your waterline to make your eyes appear bigger & brighter! Available from Brown Thomas and online.
I’m all about the eyes! And let’s face it, these days no one sees the rest of our faces, since most of us spend half the day wearing a mask! I love the Maybelline New York Falsies Lash Lift Mascara. Dubbed Best Lengthening Mascara of 2020 in the Allure Best of Beauty Awards. It just shows, you don’t have to spend a fortune for a good mascara. This mascara rivals all of the designer brands. I love the chunky brush and it delivers dramatic length and volume. As the name suggests – a lash lift look in a tube! Available in local pharmacies.
For all my curly haired girls, the Umberto Giannini Curl Whip Curl Activating Vegan Mousse is the one! It doesn’t make your hair sticky or crusty and really gives a lovely bounce to your curls – no frizz in sight! Available from Boots or online
Next on my list is pricey, but so worth it! I’d say I get more than a year out of the Chanel Healthy Glowing Bronzing Cream. It comes in a massive jar and is so lightweight and easy-to-blend! For a natural sun-kissed glow, use a large brush and buff it all over your face. Or for a more sculpted look, smooth the bronzer where thesun would hit, such as across cheeks, nose, forehead, chin and don’t forget your neck and décolleté. No make-up lines allowed!
Available at CH Tralee or online.
10. Sleeping Beauty
Last but definitely not least, is a silk pillowcase and scrunchie! I have been sleeping on a silk pillowcase now for years and cannot recommend them enough. I buy most of mine from Lily Silk on Amazon. They are made from beautiful Mulberry silk and are so soft. These pillowcases help prevent sleep wrinkles, by allowing your skin to always stay hydrated. They prevent breakouts by keeping out harmful bacteria that usually build up on cotton pillowcases and clog your pores. Silk pillowcases are also great for your hair, as it allows your hair to retain moisture from products and natural oils and reduce friction that could cause tangles and breakage. So much so, I now only wear silk scrunchies! Again, no breakage and they also don’t leave a mark where your hair has been tied up. These are a little bit of an investment, but I have mine for years! Buy well and buy once!
In next month’s issue, it is going to be all about Autumn/Winter fashion!
