Toothbrushing alone only reaches 60% of tooth surfaces. The main aim of brushing our teeth twice daily is to remove the plaque and to deliver fluoride to the teeth. This helps to reduce tooth decay and inflammation in the gums, which can lead to gum disease and bad breath.
By using interdental brushes, such as Tepe brushes, you can reach the areas in between your teeth where the toothbrush will miss. We recommend cleaning between your teeth every day and these interdental brushes are the most effective way to do so. Initially, you might find that there is some bleeding when you use the brushes, but with daily use this bleeding should stop. If you do not notice any improvement, contact your dentist.
The interdental brushes come in a variety of sizes. The brush should fit snugly between the teeth, the bristles should touch the tooth surface and gum tissue. The wire should not touch the sides of the teeth or gums. Don’t force the brush between the teeth. Move the full length of the brush back and forth between the teeth 2-3 times. You will likely require 2-3 different sizes for different areas and floss in some places.
By working interdental cleaning into your daily routine, you will improve your oral health and maintain a clean and healthy mouth.
