A Visit to the Optician

I always thought the process of getting glasses was quiet simple, you began to have difficulties with vision, you had an eye test, you got glasses that was it…but at Roger Harty Optician they go the extra mile to ensure that there is nothing left the chance, with state of the art machines you know you are in safe hands.

My appointment is at 9:15 on arrival I Rang the Bell a couple of seconds later a member of staff opened the door and greeted me saying good morning hope you’re well, may I take your temperature as it’s part of the new covid regulations. I had no problem with this as it made me feel assured that the highest professional standard is maintained here. The staff member then showed me to the waiting area where I was told to relax for a couple of minutes and we will be back to start the eye examination, I was asked for my existing glasses to be assessed. I felt very relaxed in the waiting room where the serenity of the water feature helped me relax and get more comfortable, a couple of minutes later the same member of staff came to the waiting room and asked me to join them at the 1st part of the eye examination the “auto refactor” this was was non intrusive examination. Once finished I was then shown to the opticians room where I met the optician, Roger showed me into his room and asked me to take a seat where he explained to me what examinations he is about to do for me. The first examination that Roger did was called the OCT again another non invasive examination and as Roger explained this examination was to see what was going on at the back of my eyes, again here I felt more assured that my health & wellbeing and my needs are to the fore in this optician’s

Once the OCT was finished all of 5 minutes the optician asked me to take a seat for the Refraction eye examination, again another non intrusive examination. Here I was asked to read a number of lines of letters to enable the optician identify if there was any vision issues regarding longside short sight as these examinations were proceeding the conversation was very relaxed and all about me. asking me do I have any issues with my eyes. I was in the examination room for over 30 minutes which didn’t feel like it and I felt that the optician had my best interests at heart due to the conversation and questions previously had. I felt the options presented to me by the optician we’re the best options tailored to me.

There was a selection of frames at different price ranges and there was a selection of lenses at different price ranges at no point did I feel I was being taken advantage of or that, I was never just a number for a quick sale, my needs and requirements were always to the forefront. I would highly recommend a visit to Roger Harty opticians where Roger and the team will ensure your eyes get the care and attention they need.

What can an OCT scan detect?

With an OCT, doctors are able to see a cross section or 3D image of the retina and detect the early onset of a variety of eye conditions and eye diseases such as macular degeneration, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy (the top three diseases known to cause blindness).

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is a commonly performed diagnostic test designed to assist your doctor in identifying retinal diseases, such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD) or diabetic retinopathy (diabetic eye disease).
